Teamfight Tactics (TFT) Training Guide!

Teamfight Tactics is a strategy-based auto battler where planning, economy, and adaptation matter more than fast reactions. The goal is to be the last player standing by building the strongest possible team while managing your gold, items, and positioning.

Beginner Training (Days 1–3)

1. Learn the Basics

Focus on understanding:

  • Champion costs (1–5 gold)

  • Traits (synergies between champions)

  • Gold economy

  • Experience (XP) and leveling

  • Item combinations

  • Positioning

Don't try to memorize every champion. Learn the game's core systems first.

2. Understand the Game Flow

Early Game (Stages 1–2)

  • Buy strong units.

  • Activate 2–3 traits.

  • Slam useful items instead of saving everything.

  • Build a winning board.

Mid Game (Stages 3–4)

  • Level up.

  • Strengthen your frontline.

  • Decide which composition you're playing.

  • Scout opponents.

Late Game (Stages 5+)

  • Roll for upgrades.

  • Position carefully.

  • Counter enemy carries.

  • Complete your final team.

Economy Training

Gold management is one of the biggest differences between beginners and experienced players.

Interest

  • Every 10 gold earns +1 interest.

  • Maximum interest is +5 at 50 gold.

Try to reach:

  • 10 Gold

  • 20 Gold

  • 30 Gold

  • 40 Gold

  • 50 Gold

When to Roll

Avoid spending gold early unless:

  • You're about to lose too much health.

  • Your board is extremely weak.

  • You're playing a reroll composition.

Otherwise, save until 50 gold whenever possible.

Leveling Guide

A simple leveling plan for beginners:

LevelTypical Goal
4Early Stage 2
5Stage 2-5
6Stage 3-2
7Stage 4-1
8Stage 4-5 or 5-1
9If economy allows

(Exact timings vary by set and strategy.)

Team Building

A good TFT team usually has:

  • 2–3 Frontline tanks

  • 2–4 Damage dealers

  • Crowd control

  • Active traits

  • Upgraded (2-star) champions

Don't chase every trait. Strong upgraded units often outperform weak synergies.

Item Training

Learn item categories instead of memorizing every recipe.

Tank Items

  • Armor

  • Magic Resistance

  • Health

Attack Damage Items

  • Critical Strike

  • Attack Speed

  • Physical Damage

Ability Power Items

  • Mana

  • Magic Damage

  • Spell Power

Equip items on your main carry and primary tank early rather than waiting for the "perfect" combination.

Positioning Practice

Tanks

Front row.

Carries

Back corners.

Assassins/Backline Divers

Protect your carry by surrounding them or adjusting placement.

Against Area Damage

Spread your units apart.

Reposition every few rounds based on what your opponents are doing.

Scouting

Press the scout key regularly to check:

  • Which compositions others are playing.

  • Whether your units are heavily contested.

  • Enemy positioning.

  • Win and loss streaks.

Scouting becomes increasingly important as you climb.

Daily Practice Routine (30–60 Minutes)

  1. Play 1–2 Normal games.

  2. Practice maintaining 50 gold.

  3. Focus on one team composition.

  4. Learn three new item combinations.

  5. Scout every PvP round.

  6. Review your final placement and identify one improvement.

Common Beginner Mistakes

  • Rolling all your gold too early.

  • Ignoring economy.

  • Forcing one composition every game.

  • Holding items too long.

  • Poor positioning.

  • Ignoring upgrades.

  • Not scouting opponents.
